Introduction 

 

We're pleased to welcome you to the Sun team!  Listed below is an overview of our onboarding process.  Should you have any questions about this information, please feel free to contact our HR Acquisitions Specialist, Kim Knapp.

Step 1: Complete Onboarding App

 

1.  Locate the position that most closely resembles your existing position using the "Position Listing/Application" link above, and be sure to identify the position is located at your current work location.  

There will be opportunities to express interest in other positions with Sun in the future, but for purposes of ensuring a smooth transition onto Sun's team, please only apply for your "like" position at this point.

2.  Once you’ve found your position, click on your job title.  You'll be taken to a page which lists the full description for the position.  We understand the duties listed may vary slightly from what you do today.  Click the "Apply Now" button.

3.  Next, you'll create a profile which includes things like your address, contact information, etc, and provide additional information that's specific to your position.  Each team member will be required to provide a personal email address, and it must be unique to each individual.  If you do not currently have an email address, you can easily sign up for a free email account using services like Gmail or Yahoo Mail.

  • You are NOT required to upload a resume or cover letter to your profile

  •  You may list your current position with your current employer under the "Work History" section of the page.  You do not need to add any additional employers, however you may do so if you wish. 

  • Completion of the Courses/Workshops/Seminars, Certifications/Licenses, Language Skills, Career Goals, Geographic Mobility, and Professional Memberships sections is optional.  You are required to complete any fields with a red asterisk (*).

  • Contrary to what's listed on your profile page, you are only required to list one professional reference.

4.  Once you've provided all the necessary information, click on "Submit" at the bottom of the page.  You will receive a confirmation email confirming we've received your information.

Note:  The confirmation email is a generic message and suggests there will be additional steps to the process, such as a phone interview, in-person interview, etc.  You may disregard this information as you will not need to complete those steps.

 

Step 2: Conditional Offer Letter

 

Once all of your information is provided in Step 1 , our team will work diligently to prepare a written offer of employment to join the Sun team.  Your offer letter will confirm important information, including things like your pay rate, benefit eligibility, etc.  It will also outline terms indicating the offer is subject to meeting Sun's pre-hire background check and drug screening criteria.

 

We will do our best to process your information promptly.

 

Your offer letter will be sent to you via email, and you'll have the ability to electronically sign it from your computer, mobile device, or tablet.

Step 3: Background Check/Drug Screen

Please be sure to check your personal email account often throughout this process to ensure you receive all communications in a timely manner.

 

Shortly after receiving your conditional offer letter, you will receive an email message from SterlingOne, the company we partner with to conduct background and drug screening.  Once received, please click on the link contained within the email message, read any applicable instructions/disclosures, provide the requested information, and electronically sign the release to initiate your background check.  You'll also be prompted to schedule your drug test.

Drug Test 

 

  • Once our team orders your background check, you will have 2 days to access your email and schedule your drug test.  You will have the ability to select a drug testing location based on wherever you may be at that time.  

  • Once you schedule your drug test, you must report to the testing facility and have it complete within 2 days.

 

Our team typically receives your drug test results within 1-3 business days.  In the event you test positive for drug use, you will be contacted by a medical doctor to review the results, and you will have an opportunity to provide any applicable prescriptions, etc. as needed.

Background checks usually take approximately 1 - 7 business days to complete.  No news is good news if you are not contacted for further information once your background check has been initiated!

 

Step 4: Online Onboarding

 

Once you’ve accepted your offer with Sun and completed the background check and drug screening process, you will receive a link to complete the onboarding process via email from "Sun Communities Onboarding," including completion of things like tax forms, enrolling in direct deposit or a Sun Mastercard payroll card, benefit coverage, the Team Member Handbook, and more.  This process usually takes approximately 90-120 minutes to complete.

 

You will be required to complete all four of these steps prior to your first day of employment with Sun.  Additionally, team members will be required to provide proof of work eligibility to satisfy eVerify requirements on or before their first day of work with Sun.  To review a list of acceptable forms of identification for this purpose, please click here
